Terms of Service

1. The service
Captio (“we”, “us”) provides live speech-to-text captions and machine translation delivered to an audience's web browsers. A host account creates sessions; audience members read captions at a public URL without creating an account. By creating a host account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Captio is operated by Shawn Pantzlaff in Latvia. Billing is handled by Stripe. For any question about who you are contracting with, write to hello@captio.dev.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 18 and provide a working email address. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in link private. One organization per account; the audience URL slug you choose is permanent.
3. Plans, credits and payment
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and include a monthly credit allowance. Credits are consumed per minute of live captioning at the rates in effect for your account; each session's cost is shown on its session page. Unused monthly credits expire at the end of each billing period; purchased top-up credits do not expire. New organizations receive a one-time trial credit. Prices exclude VAT where applicable.
You can cancel at any time from the billing page; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period. Refunds are handled case by case — email support@captio.dev.
4. Acceptable use
Use Captio only for content you have the right to broadcast. Do not use it to caption or distribute unlawful material, to harass or defame others, or to attempt to access other organizations' data. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms or that create abuse, fraud or security risk for other users.
5. Captions and translations
Captions and translations are generated automatically and will contain errors. They are provided as an accessibility aid, not as an authoritative record. Do not rely on them where accuracy is legally or medically critical. Session transcripts are stored only if you turn that setting on and are retained according to your plan, as described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Live captioning depends on third-party speech, translation and network providers; outages on their side can interrupt a session. Minutes that could not be delivered because of a Captio outage are not charged.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Captio is provided “as is”, and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
8. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; material changes are announced by email to host accounts at least 14 days before they take effect. You may close your account at any time by emailing us; we may terminate accounts for breach of these terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Latvia. Disputes are subject to the courts of Riga, Latvia, unless mandatory consumer law says otherwise.
